OpenCatalog – a collection of carefully selected AI Tools

With the release of ChatGPT in October 2022, the topic of Artificial Intelligence has become quite popular. Various AI-based applications and tools have started to appear like mushrooms after the rain. IT giants began to release their developments in this field to a wide audience: Google announced Bard, and Microsoft presented the new Bing, Edge and Copilot, and Meta AI — Segment Anything. OpenAI has been working on ChatGPT 5.

Relatively small and independent teams were also not far behind. One of the most famous of them, Midjourney Inc., introduced the Mid Journey AI, which allows you to generate simply incredible Digital Art images, and which became a worthy competitor to DALL-E 2 from OpenAI.

And there are tools that generate, although still not very high-quality, but already interesting videos based on prompts and/or images, for example, Runway Gen-2. Unbelievable!

Also, many startups began to appear, which already started to create their projects on the basis of the above-mentioned Tools. So, for example, ChefGPT appeared. Their team, after fine-tuning the GPT-3 model on the subject of cooking, offers service users quality recommendations for preparing dinner or gaining experience in Fine Dining.

However, what should be expected, the Internet is simply flooded with many low-quality or really inconvenient products. For example, since the official ChatGPT for Android application has not yet been released, many people tried to make a simple “proxy App” that would use the OpenAI API to broadcast chat, and submitted it to the Play Market, which quickly stopped working when the call limits ran out. API.

Other developers have taken OpenSource models, knee-jerk some website with terrible UI, and distributed it through the same Google Ads as a breakthrough AI product.

Also, many people did something based on GPT “just for fun”. As part of the Front-End training, one student decided to clone ChatGPT’s UI, described a “System Message” for it to behave like a cat and made a CatGPT site that only knows how to meow and send gifs with cats. It is not very useful, but many people liked it, and the student himself “hyped” it, he will definitely get a job.

But in general, this situation with the quality of products causes confusion for really interested users (copywriters, SEO-optimizers, other creators) who are looking for really useful and proven services that could improve their productivity. Or even just find a Fun Tool like Kaiber to make cool Reels and post to your Instagram.

Our team decided to make the process of searching for AI services easier for such people. This is how the opencatalog.ai site appeared, which will host tulas that, in our opinion, really deserve attention. Over the last two months, we manually processed and tested a lot of different services, and added 100+ favorites to the catalog (and we continue to do so).

Yes, there are already other Directories that simply search all AI-related sites in a row and list thousands, even tens of thousands (can you imagine!?) of such sites in automatic mode. Our approach is a little different. We register on the service, analyze its UI/UX, popularity in the network and other indicators.
